Bill Brack’s commitment to oval track racing is unmistakable. He grew up around racing, as his dad drove stock cars and set the stage for Bill to follow in his tracks. His first car was built in 1974 with friends Wade Moon, Steve Penner and Danny Debryne in a chicken coop with no doors on the east end. Bill entered his first race in 1977, finishing third. He won his first race three weeks later and was named Rookie of the year that season. He went on to become a fixture in the Sportsman division at Colorado National Speedway, winning over 50 races, two championships and the prestigious Challenge Cup title in his division three times.
After winning his last championship, Bill walked away from racing. He had a business to run and he had made his mark as a competitive and accomplished driver. Bill took over the family business, Buckeye Welding Supply, from his dad, and continues its successful operation today. For the past 40 years, Buckeye Welding Supply has sponsored hundreds of drivers in multiple divisions at tracks across the state. He has also sponsored events at dirt and paved tracks and has contributed substantially to Colorado racing with this unending financial and material support.
Bill has been a car owner for many drivers since the early 2000’s. One of his drivers, Tripp Gaylord, is quoted as saying “I have seen him drop what he is doing countless times to help another racer fix their car just to get back out and race. I have spent thousands of miles on the road with him and received plenty of advice and motivation to keep going.”
Bill’s sons Matt and Will have also piloted IMCA Modifieds to great success over the years, both benefiting from Bill’s expertise and willingness to work hard for the win. And they went all in, racing 75 to 80 races a year for five or six years while compiling impressive winning records, and after 20 years as car owner, Bill built a car for himself and joined his sons on the track. He states he is proud to say that at age 64, he beat 30 other drivers in the East/West Clash for IMCA Modifieds in Gillette, Wyoming in September of 2022.
Bill Brack’s career has had a positive impact on the racing community in so many ways. The Buckeye Welding Supply logo continues to appear on race cars and tracks across the region. He has led by example as a winning driver in several divisions and has helped raise a family that includes successful and winning racers. He is now recognized for these accomplishments with his 2024 induction into the Colorado Motorsports Hall of Fame!
