Some racers make their mark on the track, others leave their mark with their voice. Mark Woodward has done both, and most fans agree that he has done both better than anyone else in Colorado racing history.

While growing up near Denver’s Lakeside Speedway, Mark’s world was filled with the sounds of revving engines and cheering crowds. At age 16, he was on the starting line himself, racing motocross and chasing every weekend event he could find. His passion for motorcycle competition led him through motocross, flat track, road racing, enduro, and an incredible 18-year run at the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, where he became 1995’s Top Rookie, earned 3rd place in 2005, and stood proudly on the 2nd place podium in 2008. In addition, he was named Rider of the Year for the Colorado 500 charity run in 2010.

While Mark was making a name for himself on the track, another calling emerged. A local radio station discovered his extensive knowledge of motorcycle racing and invited him to announce an event. That single race launched a second career that would span more 40 years and earn him the nickname “The Mile High Mouth.” Mark has announced over 800 racing events, including MRA Road Racing for 22 years, Sports Riders Association of Colorado races for 25 years, RMXA Motocross, AMA Superbikes at Pikes Peak International Raceway, and the National Motocross at Thunder Valley, including the only night motocross in their history. He also announced various events at Colorado National Speedway, Bandimere Speedway, and other flat-track racing venues.  Mark became part of the Colorado 500 as a charity auctioneer, served as emcee for annual banquets, and was a trail guide for 17 years. Mark also performed an amazing double-duty by announcing and racing in the same event during his Pikes Peak Hill Climb days. He is the only one who can claim such an expansive announcing list in the state and has become one of the most recognized voices in all of Colorado motorsports.

Mark honed his announcing skills by learning from legends like Larry Huffman and Jerry Van Dyke, and is proud of the longevity that has made him a record holder for the number of events called. He is still calling events at the IMI Motorsports Racetrack in Dacono, Colorado, as well as annual Demo Derbies that are part of the Greeley Stampede.

Mark has always made it a point to give back to the sport he has loved over the years, serving as a mentor to young riders and to those in need of advice or encouragement to ride safely.  His ongoing support for charity events and public service organizations is a point of pride, as is his presence at the microphone that has made every race feel bigger, faster, and more important.

Mark Woodward will be remembered as a clean competitor, a good sportsman, and a voice woven into the very fabric of Colorado racing. The Mile High Mouth was recognized for his skill, dedication, and unmatched ability to bring the roar of motorsports to life, and was included in the class of 2025 Colorado Motorsports Hall of Fame inductees.  Take it away, Mark!
