Kevin Clark says his racing career began when he sat in the family stock car at age 2. He watched his dad race at Pikes Peak Speedway in Colorado Springs and just being around the cars inspired Kevin to follow in his dad’s footsteps.
Kevin got his first taste of competition at the age of 5 in Quarter Midgets, and much was learned over the next 8 years as Kevin progressed through various classes while earning Championships in local and national events. A move to road racing karts was next, and Kevin traveled extensively from 1982 to 1984 while racing a factory-sponsored Yamaha-powered kart. He won the Colorado State Karting Championship during that time and was part of a group that started dirt oval go-kart racing in Colorado Springs. He won two championships in the new class.
The stage was set for Keven to begin racing stock cars at the age of 15, competing in the weekly program at Colorado Springs International Speedway. He has said there was a lot of learning and quite a few body parts in need of replacement that year on his way to Rookie of the Year honors while competing with some of the drivers his dad had raced years earlier. His second season at CSIS was remarkable, scoring 8 main event victories, the season championship, and the fan vote as favorite driver. 1987 and 1988 seasons brought continued success, as Kevin competed in Grand American Racing Tour events in several states, winning 10 Feature events on the way to the series Championships in both years.
Kevin moved to the NASCAR Pro Truck series at Colorado National Speedway while gaining experience running Southwest and Midwest Tour, SRL, American Speed Association and Grand American Racing Tour events at many tracks throughout the United States. During the final year of the NASCAR Southwest Tour, Kevin qualified for the annual All Star showdown event in Irwindale, California and raced with the best short track racers in the county, an honor he considers one of his career highlights.
When looking back on 45 years of racing, Kevin says he feels lucky to have the support of my family throughout his career and that “None of this would have been possible without them!”. He is also grateful for his race crews, whose hard work was so essential at every step. Drivers who competed with Kevin over the years speak highly of his willingness to help anyone in need at the track, and that he was a driver you could always trust to run clean and hard every time out.
Kevin Clark has earned respect and admiration throughout his career and has been a winner in every class he has entered. For his outstanding on-track accomplishments and positive contribution to the Colorado racing community, Kevin was inducted into the Colorado Motorsports Hall of Fame with the class of 2024.
