Jack Nugent has been successful in a wide variety of racing disciplines during his career. After he “got the itch” to go dirt track racing in 1995, Jack built a “Street Stock” to race at Rocky Mountain National Speedway. He remembers winning a B-main event in his second year at the track, then wrecking the car before the end of the season. He was out of money and out of racing.
After a four-year hiatus from competition, Jack discovered kart racing. He quickly adapted to the rapid pace and intense competition found in the karts, and advanced to the serious business of shifter karts in short order. Jack was the IMI track Champion and claimed the Rocky Mountain Region Shifter Division title in 2001. He also placed 3rd at the US Nationals that year and was part of an International Team Kart exhibition held in Monaco on his way to a total of 40 victories in the karts.
Jack really hit his stride when he began racing at Colorado National Speedway In 2007, scoring over 30 main event wins in ten years of racing in multiple classes. After two seasons in the Pro Truck division, he achieved his best results in the Super Stocks, where he dominated the class by winning an amazing 2/3rds of all main events in the division over two years. Jack claimed the 2011 CNS Super Stock track championship, and became the first driver in track history to win the NASCAR division 4 title. He raced in two divisions simultaneously when he drove Super Stocks and Super Late Models for several seasons, and was a front runner and fan favorite in both classes.
In addition to local events, Jack raced regionally in the Super Late Models, driving in SRL and K&N Pro Series events against some of the best racing teams in the country at Pikes Peak International Raceway and other tracks in the western U.S. before stepping down from competition in 2017.
Jack was well respected by his fellow competitors throughout his career, as underscored by the Sportsman of the Year Award he earned at CNS in 2011. Those who raced alongside him could count on clean but hard competition every week. Jack has said that he tried to live up to his faith in God throughout his successful career, and the support his dad and close friends provided became meaningful parts of his racing life.
In recognition of this diverse and successful competitive career, we are now proud to induct Jack Nugent into the Colorado Motorsports Hal of Fame with the Class of 2023!
